Iyengar

The Iyengar tradition of Hatha Yoga follows the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. Its cornerstone is correct alignment of all parts of the body, within each pose, to create space for a balanced flow of energy throughout the entire being, on the mat and in daily life. Creative use of yoga props, such as blocks, straps, blankets and chairs, is commonly incorporated to practice with proper alignment, regardless of a student's experience or physical condition.

All-level For students who are experienced with basic postures. Basic postures are refined with the exploration of inversions, back bends, arm balances, and pranayama depending upon students' ability.

Level I For students who are beginning with basic postures and will be introduced to basic inversions and backward extensions.

Level II For students who are well practiced in the basic postures, including Salamba Sarvangasana (shoulder stand). This yoga class will offer a deeper and expanded study of the fundamental Iyengar Yoga poses to include inversions and backward extensions.

Gentle For students wanting a slower paced class with no classic inversions.

Restorative Restorative yoga is a quiet practice that is passive in nature using gravity and the support of props for relaxation, rejuvenation, and recovery from stress. Poses are held with support for longer lengths of time, which facilitates mind-full relaxation. Iyengar Restorative yoga classes help quiet and calm the nervous system, restore energy, and revitalize the immune system. One must be able to perform inversions - please no beginners.

Hatha

Hatha is often described as the physical branch of yoga. All types and styles of physical yoga (postures) are technically Hatha. Hatha yoga incorporates classical physical postures practiced with breath awareness and mindfulness. This practice brings about many physical and mental benefits.

All-level For students who are experienced with level I postures. Basic postures are refined with the exploration of inversions, back bends, arm balances, and pranayama depending upon students' ability.

Yoga for Scoliosis

This class is geared towards students with spinal asymmetry, e.g. scoliosis. The class will focus on the individual's ongoing exploration of their spinal patterns and useful asana (posture) modifications. They will address chronic pain issues and focus on structural awareness to help balance the spine and bring harmony to the mind/body complex.

Requirements to attend classes at Santosha Yoga

There are two requirements for any student, first the student should have the ability to get up and down from the floor by yourself, and be able to move your own props.
Please consider Private classes if you cannot meet these requirements.
